In 1980, Woodside built the North West Gas Plant with the largest construction workforce ever seen in WA and housed at the 2,340 room Hearson Village.

The village managers commissioned a computerised Village Accommodation Management System. VAMS appeared on the market commercially in 1983.

In 2009 Chevron launched Barrow Island Gorgon. Adding AU$64 billion GDP and employing 10,000 housed in 4 villages. VAMS has been deployed.

Abalon began trading in 1991 to service the specialised Pick systems after-market.

Axis Management started in 1986 and acquired VAMS in 1998 before passing the product rights to Automated Retail Management Systems.
